In today’s world, it can be difficult to stay
healthy. We want everything fast and convenient, whether it is our
cars, technology, or our food. But living in the fast lane doesn’t
necessarily mean living healthy. If you are concerned about your
health, or the health of your loved ones, then you need to slow
down a bit and take a look at the exercise and eating habits of
you and your family. You could be eating too much, and/or too much
of the wrong thing. That is why it is essential to understand the
importance of balancing out good protein and carbs, as well as
having an even balance of exercise, including weight training and
cardio. The right mixture of these ingredients will lead you to a
healthier lifestyle.
The first step to losing weight and living
healthier is to lose the refined sugar, especially before bed.
Foods that are processed and refined, such as bread, pasta,
cereal, candy and cookies will lend to increased fat deposits, and
increased fat only means more fat you have to lose. Also, these
foods consist mainly of sugar, so they are digested faster, thus
leaving you feeling hungry more quickly. But if you want to eat
these foods, do so in small amounts and during the day when you
are most active; this will lessen the chances of them being stored
as fat.
As the above paragraph states, refined
carbohydrates are not all that good for you and the best thing to
do is to cut them out of your diet as much as possible. Instead,
go for a combination of protein, and good carbohydrates. Protein
is found in meat products such as chicken, eggs, fish, lean beef,
and nuts. Good carbohydrates come from low in sugar fruits like
apples, and all kinds of vegetables (excluding potatoes, which are
very high in starch).
Foods high in fiber work wonders for losing
weight as well; as they aid in the digestion process and help you
to stay fuller longer. Salads and other types of leafy greens
contain a good amount of fiber that will keep you fuller longer.
Remember to eat these foods in moderation, as balancing proteins
and carbs for breakfast, lunch and dinner will result in a leaner
body, and much more energy.
Along with diet, weight training and exercise
is very important. You cannot expect to have a healthy wellbeing
by just eating right; you need to move your body. Cardio workouts
help you to burn fat, and it is best to do at least thirty minutes
of cardio in the morning, and thirty in the evening to boost your
metabolism. Do this instead of one long cardio session and your
body will be conditioned to keep burning fat throughout the day.
Weight training is also essential in burning fat, along with
cardio. When you lift weights, you are creating lean muscle mass
which can help burn calories all day, even when you are resting.
Increasing lean muscle mass will boost your metabolism, thus
helping your body burn more calories and burn off weight.
The steps listed above are simple, and can
be easily incorporated into your lifestyle. Eating good carbs
instead of bad, along with protein can result in a healthier diet.
Mixing up your exercise with both cardio workouts and weight
training will help keep your body burning off unwanted calories
when you are both active and at rest. In the end, it’s a way of
living that can keep up with you and your family’s busy life.
